"DNA"
A KYU Design strives to bring a cinematic quality and experience to how people view and learn about the body. By using the now popular 3D illustration medium, A KYU Design is able to combine the look and feel of 3D animation models and environments with the classical principles of drawing and painting. This unique approach enables the illustrations to blend seamlessly with animation. Founder, Adam Questell holds a Master's degree in Biomedical Communications that includes both studying and teaching anatomy at the medical school level. "3D animation and illustration is a natural fit for teaching the complex topics and relationships in the body," says Questell. "It became a lifelong passion the first time I used 3ds max, and I never tire of working with textures or lighting."
The illustrations are created in Discreet 3ds max 6.0 and composited/enhanced in Adobe Photoshop CS. Currently, the workstations used are Dell 8300s with Pentium 4 processors at 3.0GHz with 512MB of DDR SDRAM at 400MHz and ATI Radeon 9800 128MB graphics cards.
