Keith Sylvester is an assistant professor in the Department of Construction Science at Texas A&M University. His image represents a Soviet nuclear submarine K129 resting on the floor of the Pacific. The Clementine, the claw-like device in the picture, is approximately one football field in length and is being suspended from the Glomar Explorer. The image shows the US attempting to secretly recover the Soviet Submarine.
The image is taken from animated segments (that Sylvester created) used in the NOVA production "Submarines, Lies and Spies," which documents Cold War submarine confrontations between the US and Russia. It was created using Kinetix's 3D Studio Max and rendered on an SGI 320 NT Workstation.
