Los Angeles - Creative studio Exopolis has produced the show package for Film Independent's Spirit Awards on IFC for the second year in a row.
Film Independent's Spirit Awards is the premier event for the indie film community. The Spirit Awards were hosted by comedian Sarah Silverman and broadcasted live on IFC.
Exopolis had the challenge of creating not just the on-air show package, but also the on-stage package for screening on 16x9 monitors during the actual awards ceremony. The graphics had to work across both mediums seamlessly, so Exopolis provided the show producers with an extensive toolkit of graphic elements, as well as a style guide. In addition to the show open, category titles, lower thirds, various bugs and a promo campaign, Exopolis also delivered the Red Carpet Arrivals package for IFC sister network WE.
Inspired by the Spirit Awards' beachfront setting in Santa Monica, as well as ancient Greek maritime lore and vintage rock-and-roll album covers, the show open embarks on a journey through an alternative Hollywood. This is a world where perfect beings vie for a Spirit Award trophy, just always out of reach. Poseidon emerges from the sea to clutch at the gilded award, mermaids admire themselves in mirrors, and Greek architectural columns appear alongside dolphins and palm trees. Combining 2D animation layered for a 3D effect, with dynamic camera moves and explosions of graphics and color, Exopolis used Adobe After Effects, Illustrator, and Photoshop running on Mac platforms to achieve the bold look.
