Mercury Computer Systems Announces Three Offerings

Chelmsford, Mass. - Mercury Computer Systems Inc. announced three new offerings that provide whole power, real-time interactive and photorealistic 3D rendering and real-time 3D ray tracing.
For 3D application developers, OpenRTRT is an SDK (software development kit) that delivers real-time ray tracing capabilities. Ray tracing is a 3D rendering technique based on complex mathematical algorithms used to produce realistic images. It traces the path taken by a ray of light through a scene, and calculates reflection, refraction, or absorption of the ray whenever it intersects the scene.

OpenRTRT offers an easy-to-use application programming interface that provides an alternative to the OpenGL rendering engine by delivering photorealistic renderings at interactive rates. Enabling real-time accurate reflections, refractions, and fine shadow details, OpenRTRT delivers linear scalability through distribution on a cluster configuration, and takes advantage of multiprocessor/multicore architectures.
For 3D graphics application publishers, DirectViz delivers the whole power of the OpenRTRT technology within the de facto standard framework for 3D application development. DirectViz is an extension to Version 6 of Mercury Computer Systems' Open Inventor, the object-oriented, crossplatform 3D graphics software suite that offers more than 1,200 ready-to-use classes integrated in a user-friendly framework for rapid development.

With this offering, Mercury proposes the first hybrid high-level 3D graphics application development framework, and addresses the escalating needs currently out of reach by graphics processors and OpenGL, in styling and conceptual design, virtual prototyping, and visual simulation.

For end users that need a desktop application offering the entire workflow for project review in industrial design, Mercury introduced Patchwork3D, by Lumiscaphe, an emerging developer of products in the field of aspect digital mockup and photo-realistic 3D real-time rendering. Patchwork3D is a software workshop for interactive 3D digital design. Built around a real-time realistic rendering engine, Patchwork3D offers a software suite to import CAD models, apply textures and lighting, and perform interactive realistic viewing.

With real-time rendering and realistic simulation of materials and lightings, Patchwork3D allows industrial designers to communicate as early as the design stage begins, delivering high-quality digital mock-ups to validate product impact before manufacturing. Patchwork3D provides to communications professionals and salespeople a straightforward solution to market industrial products.

OpenRTRT, DirectViz, and Patchworks 3D are now available.
