Chicago, Ill. - The deadline for entry into SIGGRAPH 2007 FJORG! (pronounced FORGE), a new international computer graphics animation competition sponsored by DreamWorks Animation, has been extended to May 21, 2007.
The competition will be held at SIGGRAPH 2007, the 34th International Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques held August 5 through 9 at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego.
"We extended the deadline based on the overwhelming feedback from the community and our desire to heighten competition by allowing even more teams to compete," says Patricia Beckmann-Wells, SIGGRAPH FJORG! chair. Judges from Sony, ILM, Pixar, and DreamWorks will select the final winning entry. Prizes will be awarded from top hardware and software companies, and studios are contributing "opportunity" prizes in the form of lunches and meetings with star animators and directors.
Multiple three-member teams will be selected to compete in FJORG! for an intense, 32-hour competition held before a live audience. Each team will be challenged to create a character-driven animated sequence (of at least 15 seconds in length) based on a specific theme provided by the judges.
Submissions must be made by three-person teams and are limited to one submission per team. Individuals are not permitted to submit with multiple teams. There is a $30 US fee for uploading a demo reel. Accepted file formats and submission specifics are outlined in the FJORG! Official Rules.
Competing for the coveted title of FJORG! Champion, SIGGRAPH 2007, teams will test their animation skills, and also withstand multiple staged distractions in a test of skill, talent, creativity, and physical endurance.
The winning team will be chosen by an elite panel of judges from throughout the entertainment industry based on judging criteria set forth in the FJORG! Official Rules.
Winners will be announced at a special ceremony during SIGGRAPH 2007 and will receive various prizes including a Full Conference registration for the remainder of SIGGRAPH 2007 as well as tickets to the Electronic Theater.
