Chicago, Ill. - ACM SIGGRAPH announced a final reminder for the entry deadline of 30 January for jury content to be considered for the 2008 Computer Animation Festival.
This deadline represents the date that online entry forms must be submitted. The deadline for material upload is 27 February. In order to be considered, entries must be completed after 1 January 2007. All entries will be considered for the traditional Best of Show award (qualifying the entry for Academy Award consideration in the Short Film - Animated category), for Jury Awards, and several supporting awards. Audience favorites will be tallied daily, culminating in an Audience Prize. Awards will be presented during the final screening and presentation.
New in 2008, SIGGRAPH's Computer Animation Festival has expanded into a full-scale film festival that incorporates curated and competition screenings, discussion panels with filmmakers/artists/producers, and an expansive awards program. In addition, the Computer Animation Festival will be more accessible to the general public than ever before and screening times will be expanded to showcase full-length animated features in a single theater space.
"The expansion of the Computer Animation Festival provides SIGGRAPH a great opportunity to educate the general public about the more non-conventional ways in which computer graphics and interactive techniques affect our everyday lives," states Jill Smolin, SIGGRAPH Conference entertainment director. "Computer graphics are not solely used for entertainment purposes, but for science and research as well. The Computer Animation Festival is an excellent venue to highlight all the great contributions our industry makes to our society as a whole."
For the first time, festival organizers are seeking curated content from around the globe in an effort to present works that are not typically represented at film festivals. Full submission details are available at
