The Gnomon School is hosting a "Making of Avatar" event on Saturday, April 3 from 10 am - 5 pm at Stage 20 in Hollywood. The free event reached capacity for general admission in just over an hour, by boasting access to the artists and animators that fused artistry and technology to help create the groundbreaking film.
Oscar winners Robert Stromberg, Richard Baneham, and Stephen Rosenbaum, along with an expert panel, will examine both the design and technology that made Avatar possible with presentations featuring a wide array of behind-the-scenes looks, shot breakdowns and never-before-seen artwork.
From 10 am - 1 pm, the design session will explore the aesthetic origins of the characters, creatures, vehicles, and environments found in the living landscapes of Pandora. During the afternoon session from 2 pm - 5 pm, the animation and VFX wizards that made the artists' visions an on-screen reality will share their technology secrets, including details on motion capture, real-time virtual filmmaking and live action/augmented reality integration.
