"Peanuts," the beloved cartoon strip by Charles M. Schulz, spawned traditionally animated films that have been holiday staples for children and adults. Now, the classically animated series will be made into a 3D animated film for next-generation viewers.
At CinemaCon, Fox revealed a short trailer for a feature-length CG animated movie starring Charlie Brown and the gang, including the lovable beagle Snoopy. Blue Sky Studios, the facility behind Rio, the
Ice Age series,
Dr. Seuss
' Horton Hears a Who!,
Robots, and the upcoming
Epic, will handle the project. It will be directed by Steven Marinto (
Ice Age: Continental Drift and
Horton Hears a Who!).
Not only will the cartoon-lined characters of old be getting a CGI makeover, they will be presented in stereo 3D as well.
The new film will be released November 2015, which will mark the 65th anniversary of the "Peanuts" comic strip.
Schulz died in February 2000. His family will be involved in the film. His son Craig Schulz, grandson Bryan Schulz, and Bryan's screenwriting partner wrote the script. All three are serving as producer.
