Eight Ex'pression College Grads Contribute to Oscar-Nominated Films

Emeryville, CA – Eight graduates of Ex’pression College worked on films that were nominated for Oscars at this year’s 87th Academy Awards ceremony.

The films included:

BEST ANIMATION 

  • Omar Garcia ‘09 – “How to Train Your Dragon 2” (technical resource administrator, uncredited)
  • Hubert Leo ’08 - “Big Hero 6” (associate technical animation supervisor)
  • Jorge Heredia ‘07 – “The Boxtrolls” (digital paint and roto paint artist)
  • Kane Brassington ’02 – “The Boxtrolls” (stereo paint fix artist)
  • Curtis Zinn ‘09 – “The Boxtrolls” (roto paint artist)

BEST VISUAL EFFECTS

  • Sam Baker ‘04 – “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”
  • Dan Kunz ’11 – “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”

In addition to the above Ex’pression alumni accomplishments, Stephen Urata ’11 was the assistant re-recording mixer for two Oscar-nominated films: “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”
