LOS ANGELES – The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (www.oscars.org) announced that 20 films are in the running in the Visual Effects category for the 89th Academy Awards. The Oscars will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

The Academy’s Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee determined the preliminary shortlist. Later this month, the committee will select the 10 films that will advance to nominations voting. Nominations will be announced on Tuesday, January 24, 2017.
