LONDON — The Foundry (www.thefoundry.co.uk) has launched Mari Non-commercial, a free, non-watermarked version of the company's 3D texture painting software. The release is designed to allow artists to work on personal projects while learning the tool at their own pace.
Mari Non-commercial provides intuitive paint tools to texture 3D meshes for VFX, animation and game projects directly in the 3D environment. It also offers powerful layering, adjustments, procedurals and advanced masking. With access to professional-level features and workflows for an unrestricted timespan, artists can hone their talents and gain experience that will help them develop the skills top entertainment studios seek out in their 3D texture artists.
"With our non-commercial products, we want to give artists all the time they need to get familiar with the software,” says Andy Whitmore, chief product office at The Foundry. “They can work on personal projects, such as making their demo reels stand out from the crowd, or simply use our extensive free tutorials to thoroughly learn the software-for as long as it takes.”
Mari is the second product that the company has offered for non-commercial use at no cost to artists. The Foundry previously made its Nuke compositing, editorial and finishing software available in the same manner.
