HOLLYWOOD — Disney and Lucasfilm have kicked off the countdown to “Force Friday II” with a new augmented reality event. The global event celebrates the launch of new products from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which is set to opens in US theaters on December 15, 2017.
The “Force Friday II” event encourages Star Wars fans within a mile radius of 20 global landmarks to open the Star Wars App, select “Find the Force,” and point their phone to the sky. They will then see a short augmented reality scene. The :10 animation shows a Star Destroyer loom over key global landmarks as two TIE Fighters shoot past into the distance.
Landmarks in the US include Central Park in NYC, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, The Grand Canyon in Colorado, and The Hollywood sign in Los Angeles. Other landmarks include Niagra Falls in Canada, Sydney Harbor Bridge in Australia and the Eiffel Tower in France.
