LOS ANGELES – Last night, The Television Academy celebrated the 71st Emmy Awards, recognizing excellence in primetime programming and individual achievement for the 2018-2019 television season. HBO’s Game of Thrones was the top recipient this year, with 12 Emmy wins, including Outstanding Drama Series. HBO’s
Chernobyl received 10 awards, including Outstanding Limited Series. In total, HBO won 34 awards (9 Telecast, 25 Creative Arts). Netflix was the next most successful with a total of 27.
Without question, winter – or rather, Christmas – arrived for HBO’s Game of Thrones at the Emmy’s, as the series, which wrapped up its final season this year, took home 12 Emmy awards out of its record 32 nominations for the 71
st
Primetime Emmy Awards. Among the big wins for the epic series was for Outstanding Drama Series – the fourth such win in that category out of eight nominations, starting in 2011.
The numbers are staggering. And, these last 12 wins (for the Primetime and Creative Arts Emmys) ties the record for a series in a single year – besting its own record from 2015 (out of 24 nominations that year) and then doing it once again in 2016.
Emmys were awarded in 97 other categories at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Septemer 14th and 15th (
