Adobe has released an update to Substance Painter, its 3D painting tool, that now allows artists to paint across UV tiles. The feature (previewed at SIGGRAPH 2019) boosts performance in Substance Painter and rounds out a robust texturing workflow for 3D artists.
The new UV Tiles workflow supports higher resolutions of 3D assets and enables artists to paint with color, particles, generators and more across UV tiles. For artists developing complex materials like VFX assets, the workflow gives them precise creative control with the UV Tile Mask feature which allows them to hide specific tiles.
Additionally, the new update brings faster, streamlined processing – cutting down project save time by at least 30%, reducing file size by 20% on average and speeding up export times by at least 60% – saving artists precious time. In addition, users can open large files faster, as viewport textures computation launches when users select the texture set they want to work on.
