An English language event, VIEW Conference 2022 takes place from October 16 to 21 in the beautiful baroque city of Torino, Italy, at the futuristic OGR venue. We are thrilled to confirm that this year the majority of our speakers will be attending in person, and we encourage everyone who is able to join us in Torino for this unrivaled opportunity to soak up the atmosphere and meet their heroes and mentors. Meanwhile, full online access enables a global audience to enjoy the entire conference via exclusive livestream.
“It might sound like a cliché, but it is true to say that every year the VIEW Conference program gets bigger and better,” says Conference Director Dr. Maria Elena Gutierrez. “The caliber of this year’s speakers is matched only by their enthusiasm for the conference and everything it stands for. And, after the nightmare of COVID, it is wonderful to know that most of our speakers are attending in person.”
Inspirational Storytellers
From “Encanto” to “Pinocchio,” from “Turning Red” to “Lightyear,” from “The Sea Beast” to “The Bad Guys,” VIEW Conference delivers inspirational sessions on this year’s most memorable animated features from leading studios including Walt Disney Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Netflix and more. Leading the presentations are the filmmakers themselves, from Oscar®-winner Robert Zemeckis to acclaimed directors such as Domee Shi, Angus MacLane and Chris Williams. There is even a retrospective deep dive into Disney’s 1994 classic “The Lion King” with director Rob Minkoff.
VIEW Conference expands on these inspirational offerings with presentations by the key creators of such diverse shows as the profoundly moving Netflix series “Lost Ollie,” the subversively entertaining Netflix animated anthology “Love, Death + Robots,” and the groundbreaking “ABBA Voyage” concert experience. From the world of games, there is the chance to meet the creators of the Star Award-winning “Horizon Forbidden West” and the BAFTA Games award-winning “Returnal.”
Visual effects is equally well-represented, with world-leading VFX supervisors in attendance to deliver eye-popping presentations on the latest blockbusters including “Thor: Love & Thunder,” “Stranger Things 4,” “The Sandman,” “Jurassic World Dominion,” “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness” and “Moon Knight,” to mention but a few.
Exclusive Premieres
This year’s highlights include a host of national and international premieres, as VIEW Conference 2022 gives its audience an unmatched opportunity to enjoy never-before-seen footage from the hottest new movies. Producer Roy Conli presents an exclusive first look at Disney’s upcoming animated feature “Strange World,” while Oscar®-nominated director Henry Selick unveils “Wendell & Wild,” his latest stop-motion triumph from Netflix.
Also from Netflix, director Nora Twomey presents Cartoon Saloon’s animated feature “My Father’s Dragon” and, as part of the packed VIEWFEST festival program, executive producer Kane Lee presents a world premiere of the four-chapter limited event series “ONI: Thunder God’s Tale.” Meanwhile VFX Supervisor Mark Edwards showcases DreamWorks Animation’s “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.”
Visionary Thinkers
VIEW Conference has always prided itself on providing a platform for our greatest thought leaders to discuss the latest big ideas in their respective fields. This year is no exception, with innovative creators, technological masters and industry leaders joining forces for a series of panels tailor-made to expand the mind.
Epic Games Unreal Engine’s Marc Petit curates an in-depth conference track on the Metaverse, with a wide range of influential thinkers and virtual pioneers taking the stage to discuss the infinite possibilities of the extraordinary immersive worlds that are currently looming on the horizon. Experts from the field of virtual production examine the convergence of real and digital worlds in filmmaking, while artificial intelligence goes into analysis with a series of debates about the complex relationship between artists and AI.
VIEW Conference 2022 would not be complete without a full slate of top-level “crystal ball” panels bringing together A-list filmmakers, studio heads and creative visionaries to gaze into the future of storytelling, animation and visual effects. We are delighted to welcome a special panel of young creatives and enthusiasts expressing the views of the next generation, while a special Women in Animation panel further strengthens VIEW Conference’s commitment to the causes of inclusion and representation.
Industry Giants
VIEW Conference 2022 is honored to welcome some of the giants of the industry to this year’s event in Torino. Ramsey Naito, president of Nickelodeon and Paramount Animation, presents “The Life and Times of Nickelodeon Animation,” while Sony Pictures Animation president Kristine Belson celebrates 20 years of innovation at the studio.

Additionally, this year’s conference delivers eye-opening presentations and workshops from software giants including The Foundry and SideFX, while a contingent of VFX producers join forces for a panel on the current and future challenges in the business of visual effects.
Nurturing Talent
One of the great things about VIEW Conference is the opportunity it gives for students and junior creatives to meet their heroes and mentors. From workshops and masterclasses, to portfolio reviews and informal ‘Ask-Me-Anything’ sessions, the conference brings young talent face-to-face with top-level professionals who are committed to nurturing the next generation.
The 2022 program of workshops features a heady mix of educational topics, from sessions led by the stop-motion wizards at Aardman Animation, to subjects ranging from 3D modeling techniques in Blender software and stylized computer rendering, to traditional anatomy and life drawing skills. “Lost Ollie” creators Shannon Tindle and Peter Ramsey share their insights on “Telling Stories that Matter,” while yet more workshops offer practical advice on how to hone essential career skills from “How to Pitch a Feature Film” to “Avoiding Creative Burnout.”
Careers get an even bigger boost from the free VIEW Conference recruitment hub, which gives students and professionals at all levels a chance to meet with recruiters from major creative studios including Industrial Light & Magic, Framestore, Trixter, Rotomaker, Axis Studios, El Ranchito, Technicolor, Alps Studios and Escape Studios.
“I mentioned how big our conference program is for 2022,” Maria Elena Gutierrez concludes. “Yet there is something even bigger. When VIEW Conference is in full swing, I invite everyone who is attending to take a moment just to step back and listen. Behind the buzz of conversation they will hear the unmistakable beat of the conference’s hidden heart. It is a heart powered by inspiration, love and mutual respect. It is the reason we all come together to celebrate our achievements and share our ideas. This heart, and the warm human spirit it represents, is what matters to me most about VIEW Conference. Whether in person in Torino, or virtually, I look forward to welcoming you all!”
