At SIGGRAPH, Intel announced its Media Software Development
Kit (SDK), a software tool for media/video application developers. The
SDK is designed to help boost hardware acceleration on current and
future Intel processors and chipsets, including the upcoming
architecture codenamed Larrabee.
Intel Media SDK is designed to optimize media software for video playback and encoding using a single application programming interface (API) that streamlines code for developers. Media SDK is currently in beta and available for download via Intel’s Visual Adrenaline developer program.
Intel also announced an update to Threading Building Blocks (TBB), which expands the footprint of the product by introducing features that enable independent software vendors (ISVs) to integrate the tool into their own development environment and pass it on to their licensees.
Intel TBB 2.2 is being redistributed by Autodesk Maya and Epic Games. TBB 2.2 also offers better scalability through updates to the task scheduler and memory allocation.
