SIGGRAPH Asia will take place in Hong Kong November 19-22 and will bring many of the same topics and programs to Asia as were featured at the US conference and exhibition, only with unique content for the Asian event.
The 2013 event expects to draw conference attendees, exhibition visitors, and exhibitors from over 50 countries worldwide. It also aims to surpass the most successful edition of the conference and exhibition in 2011.
SIGGRAPH Asia will continue its tradition of being the premier platform for the advancement of graphics, animation, art, and technology. Apart from maintaining its strong standing amongst the academic research community, SIGGRAPH Asia 2013 will also strengthen its foothold within related industries.
At the SIGGRAPH Asia 2013 Exhibition, exhibitors will showcase products and services from various sectors related to the computer graphics and interactive technology sector. Attendees will see exciting new developments in technology and offerings from vendors of hardware, software and services. Production houses and studios will also recruit at the event.
"Computer graphics has gone through a sensational journey to reach its present amazing state, from phenomenal breakthroughs to lesser known advanced technologies behind the screen. SIGGRAPH Asia 2013's host city, Hong Kong, will once again unite the illustrious and diverse fields of computer graphics this November," says Wenping Wang, conference chair from the University of Hong Kong. "Come participate for an expansive view into the multifaceted, ever-changing world of computer graphics where art and science shake hands to transform pixels into a myriad of wonders."
The event will kick off with a Business Symposium. Attendees will also be treated to a wonderful Animation Festival, where an internationally recognized jury selected pieces from hundreds of submissions to present the best work of the year in daily Animation Theater and Electronic Theater screenings. The Courses program will feature a variety of instructional sessions from introductory to advanced topics in computer graphics and interactive techniques by speakers from institutions around the globe.
Interactive technology has been one of the most important inseparable wheels of SIGGRAPH Asia, and the Emerging Technologies program plays a vital role in driving the development of research communities all over the world to pursue technological innovations that will have an impact on everyday life. To drive research that will help our lives in future, extensive research on creating working prototypes with novel technological innovations is crucial. This year, the Emerging Technologies program presents a broad scope of topics, reflecting the innovation of interactive technologies and a maturation of the field as it expands to include interactive visualization and other graphics-related technologies. Be fascinated by hands-on demonstrations that expand the limits of current display technologies, and exciting new hardware that enable sophisticated and nuanced user input, innovative interaction techniques that enable more complex interaction with application data and functionality, as well as excellent examples of haptics developed to support multi-/cross-modality scenarios.
In addition, there will be product updates and detailed hands-on presentations that introduce attendees to the latest developments in product innovation in the Exhibitor Talks and Session. In these sessions, SIGGRAPH Asia 2013 exhibitors introduce their latest developments; demonstrate software, hardware, and systems; answer questions; and talk about how their applications improve professional and technical performance.
At the SIGGRAPH Asia 2013 Featured Sessions program (previously known as Special Sessions), internationally-acclaimed animation and visual effects studios will present about the expertise, art, and techniques behind the creation of the year's most anticipated films. These include: Stereoscopic Pixar - Three Eyes, Three Dimensions; Inside Elysium: From Earth to the Ring; and From Previs to Pyramids, MPC Presents the VFX of World War Z. Furthermore, industry-relevant Master Classes will be offered by SIGGRAPH Asia and its partners. This new initiative is implemented to increase SIGGRAPH Asia's offer to the non-academic community of animators, artists, designers and other digital media practitioners.
The SIGGRAPH Asia 2013 Technical Briefs program is a new initiative and will be a premier international forum for new research results in graphics, especially at the intersections of graphics with audio, image, video, and human-computer interaction. Leading international experts from over the world will present their results in peer-reviewed research spanning a wide range of research areas including, but not limited to sensor-based human-computer interaction, graphics and human-computer interface, high-dynamic range imaging, high-definition imaging, 3D imaging, image processing for graphics, high-dynamic range and high-definition video, 3D video, 3D audio, mixed reality, augmented reality, virtual reality, and graphics and multimedia. Accepted papers will be published in the ACM Digital Library, and indexed by EI.
Meanwhile, the SIGGRAPH Asia 2013 Technical Papers program is a premier international forum for presenting new research results in computer graphics and interactive techniques. All papers appear in the journal ACM Transactions on Graphics (TOG). Leading international experts from all over the world present the best results in peer-reviewed research spanning a wide range of research areas.
And don't forget, at the SIGGRAPH Asia 2013 Exhibition, exhibitors will showcase products and services from various sectors related to computer graphics and interactive technologies. See exciting new developments in technology and offerings from vendors of hardware, software and services. Production houses and studios will also recruit at the event.
