LOS ANGELES — OptiTrack (https://optitrack.com) is debuting its new skeletal solver at SIGGRAPH 2019. The solver bringing artifact-free, realtime character animation to its optical motion capture systems.
“For 20 years content producers have been asking for final-shot caliber visuals in realtime so that stage teams can converge quickly on the director’s vision and allow filmmakers to produce higher quality imagery on shorter timelines and at lower costs,” says OptiTrack CSO, Brian Nilles. “The industry has been inching closer to this with new advancements, and with our new skeletal solver, OptiTrack has delivered in a big way; it provides bulletproof realtime character animation, even under heavy occlusion, which is exactly what is needed for today’s realtime production.”
Features of the OptiTrack skeletal solver include accurate human movement tracking in realtime; extremely low latency (<10 milliseconds); and support for industry standard tools, including Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, Unity Technologies’ Unity realtime platform, and Autodesk MotionBuilder. The release is compatible with any OptiTrack system, including those used for live-action camera tracking, virtual camera tracking and virtual reality.
At SIGGRAPH, OptiTrack is also showing a complementary product to its new skeletal solver. Their new finger tracking solution was created in partnership with Manus VR. Embedded with OptiTrack’s pulse Active technology, Inertial Measurement Units (IMU), and bend sensors, the gloves deliver accurate, continuous finger tracking data in realtime that is fully compatible with existing character animation and VR pipelines, when used with OptiTrack systems.
