Here, we look beyond this year as the SIGGRAPH 2022 chair, Munkhtsetseg “Muunuu” Nandigjav, offers a glimpse at next year’s event, planned for Vancouver (August 7–11, 2022), which will be accompanied by a virtual component as well.
I am assuming that unless something unexpectedly happens in the world (again), can we expect the show to be in-person next year?
We are aiming to have an in-person conference along with a virtual component. In January of 2019, we announced the location of the conference for SIGGRAPH 2022. As of now, our plans haven’t changed. With hopes that the world will be a much safer place for travelers next year, we’re very excited to be in Vancouver for SIGGRAPH 2022.
Has the virtual show opened the conference up to people who otherwise were unable to attend live?
Through the process of planning and providing virtual conferences in 2020 and now in 2021, we have learned a lot, particularly when it comes to providing more flexibility and more opportunities for those who may not be able to travel. As we plan for the SIGGRAPH 2022 conference, we’re keeping this in mind and hoping that we will be able to continue to expand our audience and provide more inclusive opportunities for accessing content. The SIGGRAPH 2022 conference committee, with support from conference leadership, is excited and hard at work in creating the first hybrid conference experience in our community’s history.
