Hollywood, Calif. – The Gnomon Workshop, a leader in professional training for artists in entertainment and design, has announced a new FX workflows training DVD taught by artist Brandon Young, best known for his work on Dragon Age: Origins. Titled "Production FX Workflows - Dragon Age: Origins," the latest training DVD release from The Gnomon Workshop offers a rare glimpse into how a real production FX shot is constructed. Revealing techniques rarely seen outside the studio, Young utilizes an arsenal of proven production techniques and toolsets to guide effects' artists through the assembly, rendering and composite stages of this production shot. In the tutorials, the production FX workflow is presented by reconstructing a shot from the Dragon Age: Origins cinematic created at Blur Studios. Young covers shot stages, shot goals, and how to achieve them quickly. Additionally, he teaches Particle Flow, FumeFX, and stock elements, so effects' artists can make effects shine before compositing and rendering.
As a VFX artist, Brandon Young has spent the past seven years creating visual effects for games, commercials, and film. During this time, Young has worked with many studios in Los Angeles including Blur Studios, Spatial Harmonics Group, Scanline VFX, and Luma Pictures, where he worked on projects such as G.I. Joe, 2012, and Thor. With a degree in Animation Art and Design from the Art Institute of Seattle, Young studied matte painting and concept art, but 'fell' into FX animation and loved it. He stands by his illustration roots by continuing to show his traditional and digital paintings in Los Angeles galleries.
Launched as a means to share professional techniques with artists who cannot attend the hands-on courses offered at the Gnomon School of Visual Effects, the Gnomon Workshop has grown over the past ten years to offer extensive training DVDs by over ninety professional instructors. "Production FX Workflows - Dragon Age: Origins" is available for digital download and is also featured in Gnomon Workshop's training subscription plans, which can be found at: www.thegnomonworkshop.com
